Edwin Francis Urban

Edwin “Ed” Francis Urban, 89, of Fond du Lac, died on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on February 18, 1933, in Fond du Lac, the son of Francis J. and Leora I. Tank Urban. Ed graduated from Rosendale High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On November 21, 1953, he married Janice H. Thill at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in the town of Woodhull. Ed worked as a Corrections Officer at Waupun Correctional for over 35 years, and drove school bus part-time for many years. He was a former tax assessor for the Village of Oakfield. Ed volunteered coaching his son’s baseball teams and was a Boy Scout Leader for a number of years. Ed’s faith and family were the most important things to him. He was an active member at Presentation Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac and the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always brought him so much joy. His family will remember his smile and the pride he took in their success. He was their biggest supporter and mentor. He was always present at their sporting events. He will be remembered for his love of writing letters and postcards from his travels. He was an expert at over taping birthday and Christmas presents, and his wonderful giggle of amusement. Ed and Janice enjoyed traveling, going to Hawaii twice and making trips to Nashville for Fan Faire ten years in a row, and doing multiple other bus trips. Ed enjoyed projects. He was very detailed oriented and would gladly lend a hand to help anyone in need. He was a very generous man. He is survived by his wife, Janice Urban of Fond du Lac, his daughters-in-law: LuAnn Urban of Fond du Lac and Mary Urban of West Virginia; his grandchildren: Stephanie (Larry) Duford, Megan (Aris) Freeman, Eric (Lewis) Urban, Nicholas (Emily) Urban, Cassandra (John) Jenkins, Alex (Marissa) Urban, Adam Urban and Jacob Urban; his great-grandchildren: Francis, Sage, Katelyn, Jessica, Lola Grace, June, Thomas and Adelynn. He is further survived by his siblings: Howard Urban, Henry Urban and Mary Urban; his sister-in-law Bernadine (Marvin) Pea, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Bernie (Nellie) Thill, his sons: Mike and Mark Urban, his sisters-in-law: Rosalie and Irene Urban. VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 705 Michigan Avenue, North Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Private family inurnment will be at Ledgeview Memorial Park. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Agnes Hospital Intensive Care Unit, for the care and compassion shown to Ed and his family.
