George J. Habriga

George J. Habriga, 59, a resident of 244 Boyd Street, Fond du Lac, went to be with his Heavenly Savior on Monday, January 29, 2007, following a lengthy and courageous battle with liver cancer. He passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Karen, surrounded by family and friends.He was born on June 1, 1947, in Milwaukee, a son of Alex and Florence Schubert Habriga.George was a graduate of Oak Creek High School, Class of 1965. He attended UW-Platteville prior to his 1967 enlistment in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed in Honolulu and went on to serve in Viet Nam from 1968-1969. George returned to his base in Hawaii before moving to Chicago in 1970, where he was stationed at Calumet Harbor until the end of his service in 1971.George went on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from M.S.O.E. He was later employed with Associated Springs, Drott Tractor Company and Bark River Culvert and Equipment. For the last five years, George was self-employed with Habriga, Inc. selling culvert pipe and equipment. He was also a sales rep for Industrial Marketing, Inc.On December 28, 2001, he married Karen K. Rademann at Luther Memorial Church.George was a member of Luther Memorial Church. He was also a member of South Hills Golf and Country Club and the "Super Bowl Club". He enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, golfing, hunting and trap shooting.He is survived by his wife, Karen; four sons: Alex Habriga of Madison, George Habriga Jr. of San Francisco, Paul Habriga of Milwaukee, Aaron Habriga of Madison; his mother, Florence Habriga of Leslie, Arkansas; four sisters: Roni (Bob) Ciardo of Dousman, Ellen Cook of South Milwaukee, Carol (Richard) Brusnahan of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Gloria (Jeff) Stecker of Glenbeulah; three nieces: Gina (Mike) Barber, Heather Brusnahan, Courtney Stecker; five nephews: Bob (Michele) Ciardo, Jeff Ciardo, Eric Dunham, Jim (Monica) Brusnahan, Grant Stecker; four great-nieces: Mackenzie, Olivia, Jasmyn, Noel; and one great-nephew, Nick. He is further survived by his wife’s parents: Keith and Bernice Rademann; his wife’s brothers: Ron (Erin) Rademann, Rick (Sandy) Rademann; his wife’s sister: Kathy (Mark) Reimer; his wife’s nieces and nephews: Brooke, Brock, Katie, Brittney, Tucker, Ryan, Kelie, Courtney, Travis; and special friends: Denny and Nancy Rahn.He was preceded in death by his father, Alex on March 21, 1971; his paternal grandparents: Joseph and Veronica Habriga; and his maternal grandparents: George and Cecil Schubert.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Luther Memorial Church, 134 21st Street, Fond du Lac, with the Rev. David Naumann officiating. Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007, at Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and on Saturday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial in George’s name will be established at a later date. The family would like to specially thank Rev. David Naumann of Luther Memorial Church for his personal care and friendship, together with the physicians and staff of Froedtert Lutheran Hospital for their care and compassion.
