Arnold "Arnie" J. Guntlisbergen

Arnold “Arnie” J. Guntlisbergen, 65, of Neenah, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 25, 2020, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on August 22, 1955 and grew up on a dairy farm in Oneida. His parents were Walter and Elizabeth Guntlisbergen (Van Den Heuvel). They preceded him in death. Arnie is survived by his siblings: Mary (Max) Behrendt, John (Beth) Guntlisbergen, Jane (Gene) Meiser, and Carol (Bob) Lenz; nieces and nephews: Kari Wilson, Gina (Scott) Quay, David (Anna) Guntlisbergen, Michael (special friend Liz) Guntlisbergen, Andrew, Grace and Matt Meiser, Amber (Evan) Stanek, Danielle (Isaiah) Stoffel, David (Mary) Lenz, Joyel (Levi) Vandenboogart and Tim Lenz; many great nieces and nephews, whom he loved and enjoyed seeing; many Guntlisbergen and Van Den Heuvel cousins; and special friends Jodie and Scott Pederson, and Don Clark. Arnie was involved in several recovery programs. He was a caring friend and strong support to others seeking freedom from addiction. He enjoyed his job in environmental cleanup, where, as a trusted employee, he worked on many projects that helped to address environmental issues throughout the region. Besides his full-time job, flea markets were a passion for Arnie. Driving a rickety old van with every inch filled with his wares to sell, he loved to deal and find a deal. He became dearly loved and sought out as Arnie had a way to connect with people as only Arnie could. As an animal lover, his cats Martin and Sisu ruled the house and Arnie’s heart. He was so grateful to have friends adopt them and provide loving homes. He attended Essential Rock Church in Fond du Lac, where he served on the security team. He was encouraged by their focus of helping the lost and hurting in the community find faith in Jesus. He wanted everyone to know the hope and peace he found when he gave his life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. “Tell people I was a real jerk, but because of Jesus I wasn’t as bad as I used to be” In his last days, he could be found studying scripture, listening to Christian music, watching reruns of Bonanza, Star Trek, NCIS...and laughing as he’d watch WWE Friday Night Smack Down trying to convince anyone he could it was real wrestling. We will miss his snarky humor, blunt honesty, unique perspective, and quirky ways. We would like to thank the Essential Rock Church body for their prayers, especially Pastor John, for his care and concern for Arnie, and the many visits he made to encourage him and pray with him. Thanks to Dr. Moid, the Aurora cancer team in Oshkosh and also the staff at Aurora Hospice, Mary, Tina, Michelle, Tammy, and others who gave exceptional care, provided strength and spiritual encouragement. Special thanks to Bob and Carol Lenz and family who opened their home to Arnie to see him through this past year, until he went home to be with Jesus. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020. The church will be open at 10 am for visitation and the service will start at 11:00am and lunch to follow at Essential Rock Church, 40 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, WI.
