Arthur "Art" E. Schierland

Arthur E. Schierland, 77, of 577 Marshall Avenue, Fond du Lac, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Aurora Medical Center, Oshkosh.He was born on April 30, 1933, in Fond du Lac, a son of Henry E. and Lynn Pearl Williams Schierland.Art was a graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School, Class of 1951. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.On June 15, 1963, he married Sandra C. Giebel at Presentation Parish, North Fond du Lac.Art became employed at Becker Leather Goods and later at Fitzsimons Shoes. He then went on to earn an associate degree from MPTI where he became supervisor in the shipping and receiving department. He retired in 1995.He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg. Art was very involved with the Marquis Drum & Bugle Corps, served as co-director, traveling to numerous competitions throughout the United States and Canada. He enjoyed reading, making puzzles, painting, crocheting, and making beaded Christmas ornaments. Art loved to travel.He is survived by his wife, Sandra; a sister, Dorothy M. Huskey of Fond du Lac; ten nieces: a special niece, Deborah (Terry) Macreadie of Rous Mill, Australia, who resided with Art and Sandra through her teen years, Kathy (Michael) Maccaux, Cheree (Reggie) Bortner, Sue (John) Gossfeldt, Judy (Bob) Reschke, Cindy Lawler, Terry (Paul) Miller, Becky (Chris) Gess, Robyn Kanehl, and Holly Kanehl; nine nephews: Bob (Gia) Huskey, Dan Huskey, Tim Schierland, Michael (Sue) Goding, Rick (Irena) Goding, David (Kathy) Goding, Tom Giebel, Mike Giebel (fiancée Andrea), and Dave (Barb) Giebel; together with many wonderful great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Schierland of Green Bay, and Diana Giebel of Fond du Lac, and his loving pet, Keli.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Schierland; a sister, Margaret Goding; three brothers-in-law: Robert Goding, Walter Giebel, and James Huskey; and a special godchild, DeWayne Guell.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, N9288 Highway W, Johnsburg, with Fr. Joseph Coerber officiating. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park.Visitation will be on Friday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.A memorial in his name will be established.A special thanks to Dr. Sergi, the nurses from St. Agnes Hospital, Aurora Clinic, Aurora Medical Center, Oshkosh, and Dr. Harrington of Aurora Clinic.
