David R. Witt

David R. Witt, 89, of Fond du Lac, died on Friday, August 11, 2023, at St. Francis Home. He was born on January 19, 1934, in Ripon, WI, the son of Rueben D. Witt I and Josephine A. (Schneider) Witt. Dave was a graduate of Ripon Senior High School, Class of 1952. On December 26, 1953, he married Carol Mae Goyette, at St. Patrick’s Church, in Ripon. Dave worked at Johnson Good Year, State of Wisconsin DMV, 37 years in the Electronics Division at Giddings and Lewis, Wisconsin State Auto Auction (Midstates), D&X Services Stations, Biddle Motors and Moraine Park Technical College. He was a member of the following organizations: Coast Guard Auxiliary, Fond du Lac Yacht Club, Fond du Lac Sailing Club, Fond du Lac Boating Club, Amateur Radio of Fond du Lac, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), Fond du Lac Corvette Club, Mensa, Mustang Club, and Fond du Lac Elk’s Club. He was a Boaters Safety Instructor, and was a flagman at the following tracks: Road America, Wilmont and Milwaukee. Dave’s likes and interest were anything to do with sailing, traveling, bowling, reading, and most of all his family. He could fix anything, built a cabin, remodeled his and his children’s homes. When asked “How are you doing dad?” He'd respond “FANTASTIC!” He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carol Mae Witt, his children: Teresa Mabee (Bob Rennock) of Fond du Lac, Judith Witt-Sanders (Rex Sanders) of California, Peter Witt (Dawn Gourlie-Witt) of Mayville, Rachelle Groves (Fred Groves) of Texas, Kurt Witt (Jess Witt) of North Fond du Lac, Rueben D. Witt II (Wanda Witt) of Fond du Lac and Marty Witt (Andrea Witt) of Fond du Lac; patriarch of 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, his brother Robert Witt of Ripon, brothers-in-law: James Goyette of Wautoma and Ronald Goyette of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law: Ceil Janssen of Wauwatosa and Donna Stahoviak of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws: Leo and Mae Goyette, sisters and brothers-in-law: Faye Witt, Margaret Winkels, Lee Goyette, Robert Goyette and Donald Goyette, along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Special thanks to the staff of the St. Francis Home. VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 12:00 PM, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac. Cremation has taken place.
