Dennis D. Martin Sr.

It is with great pleasure that Dennis D. Martin Sr. was reunited with the love of his life Janet Martin on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Over the past few months Dennis has shared so many of their love stories. Dennis was born on January 20th, 1944 to Gilbert (Virginia) Martin and Fern (George) Kenny. Upon graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1962 he joined the Navy. He proudly served for 6 years. During that time, he served on the USS Kitty Hawk and USS Roosevelt. He enjoyed all places the Navy took him. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Dennis and Janet made their home and raised their children in Fond du Lac. He started his career at Mercury Marine on the paint line. He retired from Mercury after 30 plus years. When Dennis Jr., Kathy and Karen were younger, the family enjoyed summers traveling with the Marquis Drum and Bugle Corps. After he retired, he was a very involved grandparent with Joseph Martin and Sean Jurgensmier making sure not to miss a school event and was there whenever a taxi driver was needed. Dennis and Janet also raised their two grandchildren; Joshua and Dusten Martin. He was proud to be their father figure. Dennis and Janet welcomed Christina Lefeber into their family with open arms. We joke that Christina was the only one who to give them a granddaughter, Peyton Lamb. Dennis was very proud of his 25 years of sobriety. Since September Dennis has added many laughs to our lives that we will forever enjoy and laugh about. Those Dennis leaves behind are: Dennis Martin (Rhonda Burgess), Kathy and Pat Jurgensmier, Karen Martin and Christina Lefeber (Jason Getchel). His treasured grandchildren: Joshua Martin, Dusten Martin, Zach Coate, Joseph Martin (Kylie Guell), Sean Jurgensmier (Jasmine Hailey) and Peyton Lamb. He is also survived by his sister Pam Beals and brother Mike and Gail Kenny. Sister-in-law Fern (Bill) Schmitdt. He will be greeted in Heaven by the love of his life Janet Martin. His parents his in laws Eldon and Carol Potratz. His sibling Joann (Rick) Farrell, brother-in-law Larry Beals. Sister-in-law Jane (Eugene) Grzeskowiak, brother in laws: Roy and Lee Potratz The family wants to extend a heartfelt gratitude to SSM Health Hospice Home staff who made us feel like family and gave dad such great care. To our friends…Thank you is not enough for all the love and support our family received over the last three months. Dad…run don’t walk to mom! VISITATION: The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 901 County V, Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Ascension Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jeff Blain officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rosendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to SSM Hospice Home.
