Eleanor A. King

Eleanor A. King, age 83, died in the loving presence of her family on December 1, 2023. Born to parents Elmer (Lee) and Phyllis Harris on April 29, 1940 in Mauston, Wisconsin. She was a source of steadfast love and compassion for all who knew her. On June 9, 1962 Eleanor married the love of her life, Gary King, who preceded her in death in 2012. She was raised in Clifton WI, graduated from Tomah High School and went on to earn a B.S. Degree in Education from UW-Stevens Point. Eleanor’s vocation as a Family and Consumer Education teacher in the North Fond du Lac School District was affirmed when she would cross paths with her former students and they would explain how her teaching positively impacted their life. As a strong, vibrant, and thinking woman, Eleanor was the ‘go to’ person in her family and circle of friends. Unconditional love was her gift in life, one that she readily shared with all in her presence. Eleanor was a community-minded servant, and her heart was with her faith family at Covenant United Methodist Church. Eleanor was Woman of the Year in 2016, served as financial chair, Loaves and Fishes co-coordinator, and she curated the United Women in Faith library–providing tangible evidence of her penchant for social justice. Eleanor’s passion for reading meant weekly trips to the public library, surely their circulation rate will drop! Friends and family have fond memories of Eleanor at her sewing machine, in the kitchen cooking Sunday dinner, and in her neighborhood walking Cassie–her ever-present and beloved pet companion. Eleanor’s spirit and zeal for life lives on through her family: Leigh Anne Kohlmann of Oakfield, WI, Vincent (Kathy) King of Iron River, MI, and Walter Kohlmann of Fox Lake, WI. She has 6 grandchildren, Kristin Kohlmann, Andrew Kohlmann, Joseph Thiel, Nicholas King, Ryan King and 12 great-grandchildren. One brother, Glen (Serena) Harris also survives her. In addition to her husband, Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, brother Ray Harris, sister Linda Benjamin, and grandchild Jayson Thiel. Eleanor's family welcomes friends for visitation at Kurki Funeral Chapel 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac, WI, on Friday, December 8, from 4-7pm. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9 from 9-11am, followed by a service celebrating her life at Covenant United Methodist Church 20 N Marr, Fond du Lac, WI. Internment will be at Estabrook Cemetery N6710 Esterbrook Road, Fond du Lac, WI at 3pm. Eleanor’s family would like to thank the staff at SSM Health Cancer Care and the staff at Saint Agnes Hospital for their exceptional care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fond du Lac Humane Society.
