Elizabeth "Betty" A. Scott-Roberts

Elizabeth “Betty” A. Scott-Roberts, 79, a resident of Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, went into the arms of her Lord on September 28, 2012.Born on December 6, 1932, in Zenda, Walworth County, Wisconsin, Betty was the eldest daughter of Harvey O. and Agnethe P. Bakkom Erickson.Betty was a 1950 graduate of Lake Geneva High School where she participated in synchronized swimming. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Class of 1954.On July 9, 1955, she married Roger J. Scott in Lake Geneva. Roger and Betty moved with his employment from Wisconsin to Massachusetts, Oregon, Montana, Arizona, Missouri, and back to Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1979. On March 17, 1989, she married Kenneth H. Roberts at Hope Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Betty and Ken enjoyed winters in Texas and many travels on cruises and road trips. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2008.Teaching was one of her passions. She taught kindergarten through second grade at schools in West Allis, Madison, and Lee's Summit before moving to Fond du Lac where she taught at Chegwin Elementary school until her retirement in 1994. She enjoyed many activities such as Bridge (in 1964 Betty was dealt the “perfect” bridge hand which have the odds of 633,222,000,000 to 1), Dominos, water aerobics, writing her annual Christmas letter, and talking on the phone. Traveling, castles, horses, and parades were favorites of hers.Betty was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church. She served the Lord in many roles from a Sunday school teacher to the long-range planning committee. She was also an active member of many various civic clubs and organizations throughout the years some of which included the Welcome Wagon, Newcomers, Snow Flyers, and the negotiations committee for the teachers' union. She enjoyed going out to breakfast at Boda's Restaurant with fellow retired teachers. Betty wasn't a collector of things; she was a collector of friends and memories. Betty valued her faith in the Lord, her family, and all of her friends.Surviving “Big Red/Mom” are four children: Jeff (Kathleen) Scott of Reedsburg, Steven (Mary) Scott of Fond du Lac, Lisa (Dean) Birschbach of Fond du Lac, and Michael (Robin) Scott of Oshkosh; four stepchildren: Mike (Karen) Roberts of Lamartine, DiAnn (Dan) Hedrick of Phoenix, AZ, Donna Brockway (Rick Bauer-friend) of Fond du Lac, and Mark (Diann) Roberts of Van Dyne. She was “dear, sweet, beautiful Nana” to eight grandchildren: Brandon and Matthew Scott, Eric Scott and Sarah (Josh) Myers, Jarred, Jessica and Jace Birschbach, and Keely Scott; nine step-grandchildren: Claire and Sean Roberts, Brian and Tom (Jessica) Brockway, Ashleigh Roberts, Brad Jones, Amanda Young, Ashlee Boyd and Ben Oleson; one great-grandchild, Ethan Scott, and other step-great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Beverly) Erickson of Lake Geneva; one sister, Helen (Don) Grunden of Lake Geneva; three brothers-in-law: Ronald Goergen of Berlin, Robert (Phyllis) Scott of Heyworth, IL, and Wynn (Pat) Scott of Bradford, IL; one sister-in-law, Marlene (Vic) Tenney of Oak Ridge, TN; nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnethe and Harvey Erickson; her mother and father-in-law, Bonnie and Glenn Scott; her mother and father-in-law Gertrude and Harold Roberts; one sister, Marjorie Goergen; and one infant grandson, Mark Scott.Visitation for Betty will be from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street, Fond du Lac. There will also be a short visitation from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, until the time of service at church.Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor Steve Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery. A luncheon at church will follow the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an educational scholarship in Betty's name.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sergi, Dr. Van Beek, St. Francis Home, and Hospice Home of Hope for the wonderful care given to Betty.
