Esther K. Mand

Esther K. (Heaney) Mand, age 93, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully on June 9, 2025 at Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation surrounded by her family. She was born on December 16, 1931, a daughter of Martin and Meta Miller Heaney. Esther married Alfred “Fritz” Mand on July 26, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac and were united in marriage until his passing in 2012. Esther was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s Springs Academy and received her teaching degree from Marian College. She began teaching in a rural elementary school and later taught for 32 years in the Fond du Lac Catholic Schools. After retiring in 1997, her love for teaching continued by doing volunteer tutoring and substitute teaching for many years, thus impacting the lives of so many children. Esther was a member of Holy Family Community, and an honorary member of St. Patrick Rosary Guild. Survivors include daughters, Catherine (Ken, Jr.) Seibel, Janet (Michael) O’Connor, son, David (Diane) Mand, son-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Teofilo, Sr. Thirteen grandchildren: Trisha Teofilo Olave (Ricardo), Corina (Eric) Mattson, Bridget Teofilo, Bob (Lisa) Teofilo, Tina Teofilo (Gina Gleason), Kelly (Ben) King, Carrie (Jake) Nitz, Jennifer (Allen “AJ”) Kraus, Christopher O’Connor, Elizabeth Achter, Thomas Mand (Naomi Wasserman), Brian (Bobbi Jo) Mand, Ben Mand (Carly Wilson), twenty two great-grandchildren, Caleb Siebauer, Cami & Chase Nitz, Teegan, Julian & Darrian Kraus, Liam, Murphey & Rorey O’Connor, Barron, Aubrey, Graham & Clara Achter, Isla, Cora & Lewis Mand, Leon Mand, Enza & Teo Olave, Anja, Marco & Oliver Mattson. Further survivors are sisters, Mary (Ron) Schaefer & Judy (Tom) Michels, sisters-in-law, Virginia Schneider & Irene Mand, brother-in-law Joseph Ouellette, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives & many friends. Preceded in death by her parents, foster parents Nick & Irene Abler, husband, Alfred “Fritz”, son, Bobby, daughter, Mary Teofilo, sisters, Dorothy (Lyle) Huth, Helen (Lyle) Jerdee, Catherine ‘Kay’ Abler, & Barbara Ouellette, brothers, Martin (LouNelle) Heaney, Vincent “Tom” (Marilyn) Heaney, in laws, Florence (Alex) Michels, Alois (Lydia) Mand, Ambrose (Agnes) Mand, Ray (Mary Ann) Mand, Servie (Marie) Mand, Genevieve (Emil) Kopplin, Wilfred (Marie) Abler, Adolph Schneider, & Leo Mand. Esther was proud of her Irish heritage & enjoyed her several trips to Ireland as well as decorating her home with the Irish theme in the month of March. She always loved being with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends and doing extra things for them. She enjoyed sewing, making different items, as well as decorating her home for the different seasons & baking from “scratch” Ladyfingers, Cinnamon Twists & various kinds of bars & cookies. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Harbor Haven and SSM Hospice for the loving care and compassion given to Esther. SERVICES: Esther’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at noon to 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth St. Way, Fond du Lac. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation. Burial will take place immediately following the church service at St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Esther’s name.
