Gordon L. Grosz

Gordon L. Grosz, 80, of 441 East Johnson Street, Fond du Lac, went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, February 8, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.He was born on December 16, 1929, in Sheboygan, a son of Gottlieb and Susanna Weisz Grosz.Gordon proudly served with the United States Army from 1948-1952 during the Korean Conflict.On July 14, 1956, he married Anita Ann Zahn at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mattoon, Wisconsin.Gordon worked as an auto mechanic at Service Motors, Biddle Pontiac, Dittrich Buick, and Meiklejohn Volkswagen. He was later employed as a maintenance mechanic by Giddings & Lewis, Speed Queen, and Mercury Marine, in addition to teaching auto mechanics at Moraine Park Technical College.Gordon was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac, and served as a head usher for many faithful years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and camping.He is survived by his wife, Anita; two daughters: Roberta (Terry) Scherck of Fond du Lac and Janet (Tony) Hettenhaus of North Fond du Lac; two grandsons: Dan Hettenhaus and Devin Scherck; and two sisters: Milda Russell and Hilly (Lyle) Griffith, both of Washington; two sisters-in-law: Charlotte Gross of Plymouth and Ann Gross of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by his wife’s two brothers: Ross (Virginia) Zahn of Mattoon and Dale Zahn of Fond du Lac; a sister, Linda Zahn of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Max Scherck, and 11 siblings: Phillipina Grosz, Adelia “Della” (John) Mattern, Eugene (Cora) Grosz; Alfred Gross, Gerda (Lewellyn) Paulson, Leontine “Peggy” (Alex) Chrispens, Richard Gross, Ella (Joseph) Overbay, Edwin (Erna) Grosz, Irma (John) Mueller, and Meta (Clarence) Margenau; and two brothers-in-law: Henry Harms and Paul Russell. He is further preceded in death by his wife’s sister, Karen (Buddy) Erickson.The funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Arthur Callies officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Trier-Puddy Post 75, Fond du Lac. Burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park.The visitation will be at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.Memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church.Gordy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed being “one of the boys” with his two grandsons. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and would drop everything to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed.
