James S. Voss

James Stephen Voss, peacefully went home with Jesus, on Monday November 28, 2022. James was born August 6, 1949, in Ayer, Massachusetts, to Clinton and Julia Voss. Being in a military family, James grew up and lived in various places around the United States and the world including Japan, Germany, Massachusetts, Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin. In his youth, James was an Eagle Scout. He was also a part of the Fond du Lac Youth Mason Group. While in Goodrich High School, he was in a band The Impacts and taught guitar. He also broke records for physical fitness. James loved to fish, especially in the trout streams and lakes near Sparta. James went to the UW-Oshkosh for Art. He created beautiful works of art with stained glass and wood working. He had an eye for finding beauty in wood and creating works of art. James was in the US Marines which ended early due to health issues. He worked in the Fond du Lac and Sparta areas as a painter. He married Laurie Sullivan in August 1970. James and Laurie had one daughter. James was a master at the guitar, writing and singing songs and playing the harmonica. For years, he enjoyed playing music out at Lakeside Park or on the front porch. He recorded so much beautiful music throughout the years. James was a very talented man with a great sense of humor. He had a special place in his heart for animals especially his dogs over the years, starting with Sparky. It brings peace knowing he is with his Sparky again. James is survived by his daughter Joni Voss Hayibor of Fond du Lac, WI, step-son Dylan Sullivan, grandchildren: Isaiah Voss, Elijah Voss and Julia Voss Hayibor. Brothers: William (Nancy) Voss of Ashburn, VA, John (Georgia) Voss of Punta Gorda, FL, and sister Juliann Haskins of Sparta, WI. James had many nieces and nephews he loved very much. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother in-law Leland Haskins II. A special THANK YOU to all of the staff at Edenbrook Nursing Home for taking such good care of him the past almost 4 years. VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, with Rev. Rob Van Ess officiating. Cremation has taken place.
