Joyce E. Becker

Joyce E. Becker, 80, 804 Michigan Ave. in North Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.She was born on July 13, 1928, in North Fond du Lac, the daughter of Herman O. and Emma I. (nee Hagenau) Beaster. In 1946, Joyce graduated from North Fond du Lac High School.On May 15, 1948, Joyce married Clifford H. Becker of Fond du Lac. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past May.Joyce was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac, and a member of the ladies aid. She was a member of the American Legion Dreier-Bushee-VanderBoom Auxiliary Post 156 in North Fond du Lac.She enjoyed playing cards, especially canasta, and she belonged to the neighborhood canasta club for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting afghans for her family. Joyce enjoyed the simple pleasures of life right on her own front porch.Joyce worked as an elevator operator at the Fond du Lac Department Store for many years and also fried fish at the Cornerstone Tavern in North Fond du Lac.She is survived by her husband; four children: Greg (Barb) Becker of Green Lake, Gary (Julie) Becker of Tucson, Arizona, Barbara (Robert) Miller of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Beverly (Richard) Putz of Fond du Lac; eleven grandchildren: Nathan (Nicki), Emily and Aaron Becker, MacGarret (Leslie) Becker, Robert, Steven, Tyler and Callie Miller, David (Courtney) Putz, Anna (Jeremy) Bartelt, and Kara Putz; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Grace Bartelt; a brother, Melvin Beaster of North Fond du Lac; two sisters: Della Wischnefski and Alma Woodruff, both of Fond du Lac; two sisters-in-law: Violet Beaster of Fond du Lac and Margaret Beaster of North Fond du Lac. She is further survived by her husband’s siblings, nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Oscar (Nina), Ervin (Virgil), Earl and Lindor Beaster; a sister-in-law, Hazel Beaster; and two brothers-in-law: Herbert Wischnefski and Clark Woodruff.The visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1010 Adams Ave. in North Fond du Lac. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at church with the Rev. Thomas H. Behnke officiating. Burial will follow in Estabrooks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
