Kenneth H. Roberts

Kenneth H. Roberts, 75, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac.He was born on June 27, 1933, in Sheboygan, a son of Harold and Gertrude Smith Roberts.Ken was a graduate of Kohler High School and served with the United States Air Force until 1956.He worked as an engineer at the Kohler Company until 1962. Ken then went to Mercury Marine in Cedarburg, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh until 1974. He worked independently, as a consulting engineer, until retiring at the age of 55.His volunteer activities included the volunteer fire department, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Senior Scouts in Kohler, as well as coaching Little League in North Fond du Lac. Ken loved traveling, fishing, duck hunting, and golfing, especially at their winter home in Corpus Christi, TX, where he and Betty made many very good friends from all over the country and Canada.Ken was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.Ken married Joyce Nigh in 1954 and they had four children: Michael (Karen) Roberts of Lamartine, DiAnn (Dan) Hedrick of Kansas City, MO, Donna Brockway (Rick) of Fond du Lac, and Mark Roberts (Diann) of North Fond du Lac; six grandchildren: Claire and Sean Roberts, Brian and Tom Brockway, Ashleigh Roberts, and Brad Jones. Joyce preceded Ken in death in 1986.In 1989, he married Betty Scott. Betty’s children are: Jeffrey (Kathleen) Scott of Baraboo, Steven (Mary) Scott of Fond du Lac, Lisa (Dean) Birschbach of Fond du Lac, and Michael (Robin) Scott of Oshkosh; 11 grandchildren: Brandon and Matthew Scott, Eric and Sarah Scott, Jarred, Jessica and Jace Birschbach, Keely Scott, Amanda (Sean) Young, Ashlee and Ben Oleson; and two great-grandchildren: Ethan Scott and Bailee Young.Also surviving Ken are Joyce’s brother, Bob Nigh of Green Bay, her two sisters: JoAnn (Jerry) Opeka of Colgate, and Cheryl (Jim) Krause of Sussex; Betty’s two sisters: Marjorie (Ron) Goergen of New Berlin, and Helen (Don) Grunden of Lake Geneva; her brother, John (Beverly) Erickson of Lake Geneva; various other in-law’s; numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Francis; two foster siblings: Bob and Doris Barker.Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street, Fond du Lac.Ken’s funeral service will take place at noon on Saturday at church with the Rev. Arthur Callies officiating.Memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church or Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sergi and the staff of Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope for the wonderful care given to Ken.
