Marie A. Laiten

Marie Anna Laiten, 101, of Fond du Lac, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Tower View Assisted Living in Rosendale, WI, just days shy of her 102nd birthday. Born on August 30, 1923, in Omro, WI, to William and Katherine (Evers) Ternes, Marie was a graduate of Oshkosh High School. She was married to the love of her life, George Ward (GW) Laiten, on September 18, 1942, in Santa Monica, California. Together, they built a life filled with love, and lots of lasting memories. Marie was raised on a farm in Winnebago County, and she spent 76 years of her life on the West shore of Lake Winnebago, where she cherished her home and the beauty of the lake. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fond du Lac and an active participant in the Eastern Stars. A true homemaker at heart, Marie had a passion for baking and traveling, but above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved by her. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, GW; her parents, William and Katherine; and her sisters, Gertrude Postl, Elizabeth Barthels, and Dorothy Grundy. She is survived by four children: Winifred (Alex) Kingsland Caramanidis, Marcia (Neil) Sonnenberg, Juanita (Kurt) Urban, and George Ward (Dawn) Laiten; nine grandchildren: Michael (Colleen) Kingsland, Thomas (Wendy) Kingsland, Dawn LeComte, Jason (Farrah) Sonnenberg, Jodi (Scott) Tavs, Lisa Cady, Lana (John) Keane, Laura (Scott) Schwab, and Hunter Laiten; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Rebecca & Brooklin Kingsland, Syler & Jackson Sonnenberg, Karlee & Ana Tavs, Kendall & Alexis Cady, George, Carissa & Kellan Keane, Haven & Banyan Schwab. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Tower View Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for the loving care and compassion they provided Marie during her time there. Marie’s life was a testament to the importance of family, faith, and kindness. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
