Marlow Potratz

Marlow E. Potratz, 75, of W8047 County Road N, Van Dyne, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.He was born on October 25, 1933, in Fond du Lac, a son of Ervin and Erna Albrecht Potratz.Marlow graduated from Rosendale High School in 1951 and married Shirley Miller in 1953 at Peace Lutheran Church, Rosendale. She preceded him in death in 1978. Marlow married Marlene Wagner on September 3, 1979, at First Baptist Church in Waukegan, Illinois, and this coming September, they would have celebrated 30 years of marriage. Marlow worked as a dairy farmer and hauled milk. He then owned and operated the Sportsman’s Bar in Eldorado before he became a Borden Distributor and finally, he worked at Quad Graphics where he received the Master’s Cup.He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Nekimi. He sponsored softball teams for 16 years and enjoyed collecting toy tractors. He enjoyed woodworking and he loved animals, especially his cats.He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children: Nanette (Russell) Leichtfuss of Van Dyne, Mark (Dawn) Potratz of Lamartine, and Larry (Mary) Potratz of Fond du Lac; two step-children: Vicki (Greg) Weber of Oshkosh and Brian (special friend, Jeff Morin) Borchardt of Stevens Point; grandchildren: Laura (special friend, Doug Prunty) Leichtfuss, Jeremy (special friend, Kristy Jarvey) Leichtfuss, Kristy (fiance, Jamie Vermeer) Leichtfuss, Jennifer (Larry) Schultz, Charity (Tony) Bukowski, Nicholas Potratz, Phillip Potratz, Jeremy Potratz, Cory (Sharon) Potratz, Tony Potratz, Jamie (fiancée, Stephanie Korb) Potratz, Amanda Lemieux, Emily (special friend, Dustin Schaefer) Lemieux, Maggie Lemieux, and Samuel Lemieux; great-grandchildren: Jonathon, Allison, Austin, Michaela, Carrisa, Aliegha, Skylar, and Izaiah; and a sister, Audrey Hass of North Fond du Lac; and nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Shirley Potratz.The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 491 Old Oregon Street Road, Nekimi, with Rev. James E. Reiff officiating. Burial will follow in Rosendale Cemetery. The visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, and on Monday at church from noon until the time of service.
