Norman V. Tabbert

Norman V. Tabbert was called Home by his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 9, 2016.He was born on February 9, 1928, in Fond du Lac, a son of Frank Gustave Tabbert, Sr. and Elsie Ludwig Tabbert. Norman attended Brandon High School.Norman proudly served his country in World War II, attaining the rank of T/5 Control Station Operator, Hq 15, AAA Group, Leyte Philippine Island. He continued serving his country by enlisting with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of PO 2nd Class Engineman (Throttle man, main engines) on the USS AKA4, Electra Pacific Area. Norman was honored to be able to participate on Old Glory Honor Flight on April 7, 2011.He was employed as a union cement finisher for many years. He had many hobbies. Norm was a creative person and made many wood carvings, often giving them as gifts. He enjoyed rock collecting, traveling for those great finds. He was a member of the Gem and Mineral Club of Fond du Lac.On August 6, 1949, he married Evelyn N. Dean, the love of his life.Norman enjoyed many years hunting with his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with catfishing with them on Lake Puckaway. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn; two sons: Brian (Karen) Tabbert of St. Cloud and Tim (Michelle) Tabbert of Van Dyne; a daughter, Sandy Lee (Scott Esbruner) of Park Falls; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Vernon Tabbert, Orville Tabbert, and Frank Tabbert, Jr.; a sister, Marilyn Sass; and a half brother, Edward Tabbert.VISITATION: The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 North Marr Street, Fond du Lac.SERVICE: A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Covenant United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Morning officiating.Cremation has taken place.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Generations Hospice or Covenant United Methodist Church.The family would like to give special thanks to Generations Hospice, especially Sue, Jennifer, and Chaplin Jim, who gave him the best care and compassion.
