Ramon "Ray" L. Gray

Ramon Gray left this earth to be with the love of his life, Norma Jean, on September 11, 2012, surrounded by his daughters.Ray was born on February 21, 1928, in St. Louis, MO. He was the youngest of six children. Ray enjoyed all kinds of sports and at the age of nine, he won a trip to the Worlds Fair for being the marble champion of St. Louis.Ray met Norma at a community center dance and soon after they fell in love they married on September 14, 1950, and were looking forward to their 62nd anniversary. Now they can celebrate it together in heaven.Four days after they were married, Ray enlisted in the army and was sent to Korea. He was captured and was a prisoner of war for two and a half years. Upon his return, he attended the University of Iowa and then University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, for graduate school. Ray worked in corrections his entire career, the highlight being the warden of the Waupun State Prison.Ray enjoyed playing golf, golf and more golf. When he wasn't playing golf, he enjoyed reading, walking his dog Sophie, and spending time with friends and family.Ray and Norma wintered in Pharr, Texas, and made many friends there. In Texas Ray played more golf!Ray is survived by three daughters: Kellie Hare of Fond du Lac, Mandi (Bill) Hendricks of Oshkosh, and Missy Gray of Oshkosh; four grandchildren: Tamar Simpson, Joe Hendricks, Elizabeth (Chris) Robins, and Megan Hare (fiance Tony Compton); and three great grandchildren: Sage and Bilee Simpson, and Jadie Hendricks; and finally his favorite pet of all time, Sophie.Ray was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Norma on June 29th, 2012, his parents, and all his brothers and sisters.In accordance with Ray's wishes, there will be no funeral services. However, his daughters will be hosting a celebration of his life from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, at the Fond du Lac Elks Lodge #57 and all his friends are encouraged to attend.We would like to especially thank everyone at the Hospice Home of Hope, who not only cared wonderfully for our dad, but for all our family for the last 16 days.Rays daughters would appreciate any donations in Ray's name be made out to the Hospice Home of Hope and sent to Kellie Hare, 636 Grove St. Fond du Lac, WI 54935, or brought to the Elks Club on Sunday.
