Ruth D. Ewerdt

Ruth D. Ewerdt, 89, of 350 Winnebago Street, North Fond du Lac, and formerly of Brownsville, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at her home surrounded by family.She was born on March 23, 1919, in Fond du Lac, a daughter of William and Ida Luedtke Kutz.Ruth was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School, Fond du Lac, and graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Class of 1937. She continued her education by receiving a teacher’s certificate from Dodge County Normal School.On August 24, 1941, Ruth married Arnold O. Ewerdt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Brownsville.Ruth taught in numerous one-room schoolhouses in the Dodge County area, and also at St. John’s Lutheran School, Newburg. She also taught kindergarten and second grade at St. Peter’s Lutheran School, Fond du Lac, and kindergarten at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Brownsville.Christian education was very dear to Ruth’s heart. Many former students have reflected on their memories of her as their teacher.Ruth was a former member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Brownsville, where she was a longtime member of the Ladies Aid and Dorcas Society. She was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac, Winnebago Lutheran Academy Auxiliary, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society.Ruth’s Christian faith was the center of her life, and she was unashamed to talk to others about her faith.She loved to crochet, a treasure she passed on by crocheting an afghan for each of her grandchildren for their high school graduation present. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends for the legacy she left behind.She is survived by three children: Jeanne (Wayne) Jahns of North Fond du Lac, Mark (Beth) Ewerdt of Fond du Lac, Paul (Nancy) Ewerdt of Pickett; 11 grandchildren: Thad (Ann) Jahns, Sarah (Andy) Roach, Melissa (Schad) Kulibert, Brian (Sarah) Ewerdt, Ben (Jennifer) Ewerdt, Aaron (Amy) Ewerdt, Amory Ewerdt, Anita (Cedric) Braatz, Anna Ewerdt, Abby Ewerdt, Alice Ewerdt; two step-grandchildren: Jeremiah and Lexi Mohr; 13 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Micah, and Jonah Jahns, Brennan, Kyla, and Caleb Kulibert, Hope, Lydia, Bryce, Clayton, and Ezekiel Ewerdt, Alena Ewerdt, and Caiden Braatz; two step-great-grandchildren: Alec and Jada Braatz; a brother-in-law, Ted Ewerdt of Fond du Lac; three sisters-in-law: Marie Ewerdt of Fond du Lac, Ruth Westphal of Fond du Lac, and Harriet Ewerdt of York, Nebraska.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on March 8, 1989; and a sister, Anita Zahn.The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1010 Adams Avenue, North Fond du Lac, with Rev. Thomas H. Behnke officiating. The visitation will be on Sunday at church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brownsville, on her 90th birthday, Monday, March 23, 2009.Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac, St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Brownsville, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, and St. Agnes Hospice Hope.
