Stanley G. Dilling

On Wednesday March 23, 2016, Stanley G. Dilling found eternal peace surrounded by his family at St. Agnes Hospital. Stan lived the past four and a half years at the Woodlands Senior Park.He was born to Gilbert H. and Elizabeth W. (Nelson) Dilling on September 13, 1924, the third of five children. He graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1942. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Naval Armed Guard, where he served as a radio operator on merchant ships during World War II, in the South Pacific.After his discharge from the service, he married Marjorie F. Anderson, on June 29, 1946, at Division Street United Methodist Church, which is now Covenant United Methodist Church, where he has been a lifelong member. They were married for 66 years. Stan worked for his father-in-law, Louis Anderson, at the Anderson Garage, on Hamilton Hill, in the Town of Byron. Stan took over the business in 1960, and worked there until his retirement in 1986, when he sold the business to his son, Bruce, and continued to work part time for many years. Stan loved spending time with his family. Stan and Marjorie were avid campers and many of their summer camping trips included their grandchildren. He also enjoyed his Friday night card games for many years and his numerous trips out West. Stan is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Gerry) Schmitz, and their children: Sue (Rob) Freund (their children: Johnny, Drew, Ryan, and Kyle), Alan (Julie) Schmitz (their children: Sam, Bennett, and Christopher) and Elizabeth ( Rick ) Acord ( their son, Jacob); a son, Bruce (Carol) Dilling, and their children: Brooke Dilling (her children, Reese and Hank), and Andrew (Dana) Dilling (their son, Jack) : two sisters-in-law: Caroline Dilling and Patricia Dilling; and many nieces and nephews.Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; a sister, Ruth (Harold) Anderson; three brothers: Milton, J. Earl, and Robert Dilling; two sisters-in-law: Dolores Blonigen and Dorothy (Ray) Olm. Words alone cannot express the gratitude the Dilling family has for the staff at the Woodlands Senior Park and the Agnesian Hospice staff for the care they gave Stan during his stay. We would also like to thank the many friends who visited him for he so loved to sit and reminisce – he truly loved people.VISITATION: The visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 North Marr Street, Fond du Lac.SERVICE: A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Covenant United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Morning officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Covenant United Methodist Church, Agnesian Hospice, or the charity of one’s choice.
