Vallanee Rose Hayes

Vallanee “Val” Rose Hayes, 85, of W5041 County Trunk Y/Campbell Road,Fond du Lac, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, in the house in which she was born.She was born on May 15, 1921, the daughter of William A. and Rose M. Klink Luedtke.She graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High in 1939, and from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1943.She married Rev. Stanley C.F. Hayes on June 20, 1944, at Ebenezer Evangelical Church, Elwood Corners, Town of Lomira. Val was committed to children and worked with Fond du Lac County Head Start for 20 years. During 15 of those years, she served as director of the program. After her retirement, she worked with St. Agnes Home Care for 5 years.She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Fond du Lac, and United Methodist Women. She belonged to several quilting groups with whom she shared her passion for quilting. Val's home was filled with her love of family, her pets, good food, gardening and music. She is survived by her husband of 62 years; seven children: Carla (Neil) Olson, of Milton, Wanda Hayes(Edwin) Eichler, of Pigeon, Michigan, Timothy (Nancy McEldowney) Hayes, of Ankara, Turkey, Penelope Hayes Strong, of Billings, Montana, Mary Beth Hayes (Patrick Mullen), of Fond du Lac, Heidi Hayes (Richard) Johnson, of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Martha (James) Burkhead, of Atoka, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, William Luedtke.The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 N. Marr Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Ardys VanStavern and Rev. Kenneth Kortemeier officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Town of Lomira. The visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, and on Saturday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.Memorials may be directed to Covenant United Methodist Church and St. Agnes Hospice Hope, who made it possible for Val to end her journey with Alzheimers at home. Val led a rich life and touched many people. Letters of tribute about Val would be welcomed by the family.
