Winnie A. Fink

Winnie A. Fink, dedicated and loving husband and father, died Saturday, January 5th at home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 81.He was born on March 25, 1926, in Fond du Lac, to Winnie and Elsie Detert Fink. He served in the United States Air Force from 1944-1946 as a member of a B-29 crew. After WWII, he served in Germany and was honored to attend the Nuremberg War Crime Trials as an observer.On December 28, 1946, he was married to Audrey Kellett at Division Street Methodist Church. He enjoyed 61 years of love and happiness with his wife Audrey. Winnie’s biggest accomplishment and source of pride was his family. He loved the outdoors and spent much time camping with his family and fishing for perch.Winnie completed his BS degree at UW-Oshkosh in 1950. He was awarded a National Science Foundation fellowship, resulting in a MS degree from UW-Madison in 1957, and completed his post graduate work at Marquette University. His career began in 1950 as principal of Reeseville grade school, and from 1952-1955, he taught at Lomira High School. He started in the Fond du Lac School District in 1955 as a fifth grade teacher at Evans School, and from 1957-1962, he taught Advanced Math & Physics at Goodrich High School. From 1962-1968, he served as assistant principal at Woodworth Junior High School and as principal from 1968-1978. In 1978, he returned to the classroom at Goodrich High School and was able to pursue his love of teaching, until his retirement in 1986.Throughout his life, Winnie touched so many people in so many ways. He was a friend, confidant, mentor and teacher. His positive approach to life and his sense of humor will be missed by all.Survivors include his wife, Audrey; four sons and two daughters: Robert (Joan) Fink of West Bend, Terry (Robin) Fink of Fond du Lac, Richard (JoAnn) Fink of Fond du Lac, Nancy (Jim) Stokosa of Stevens Point, Winnie (Kathy) Fink of Fond du Lac, Diane (Kevin) Allen of New Berlin. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Arlene Hintz of Shawano, Delores (Bob) Trepanier of Fond du Lac; and a brother, Marvin (Dorothy) Fink of Brownsville.Winnie was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Lyle, Earl, Reuben, Mylan; one brother-in-law, Melvin Hintz; and two sisters-in-law: Jeanette and Rosemary Fink.The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 North Marr Street, Fond du Lac.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Covenant United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Morning officiating. Burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park.A special thank you to the Agnesian ICU team and Agnesian Hospice Hope.
