Arline E. Gumz

Arline Hasse Gumz was born on September 21, 1922 in Sauk County Wisconsin to Edwin Hasse and his wife Esther nee Elfers. She was taken to her home in heaven on September 1, 2010, where she was reunited with her husband, the Reverend Bernard C. Gumz. Her mother & father also preceded her in death, as did one brother, Laverne.Arline was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillpoint, Wisconsin. Her confirmation verse from the thirteenth chapter of Hebrews, “Be content with such things as you have for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”, guided her and comforted her throughout her life.She graduated from Lime Ridge High School and the Milwaukee Hospital Lutheran School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. On March 11, 1945, she married the Reverend Bernard C. Gumz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Reeseville, Wisconsin. They were devoted to each other and after almost 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2004.Arline was very talented musically and directed choirs at all the congregations served by her husband; Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manitowoc and Berea Lutheran in Milwaukee. She loved directing choirs for children and youth, as well as singing in the Senior Choir. She taught Sunday School and belonged to the Ladies’ Guild, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Altar Society and the Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary. Pastor Gumz retired from the active ministry in 1981 and they moved to Fond du Lac. They enjoyed traveling and the company of many dear friends. They continued to serve the church as a couple through Laborers for Christ missions in Utah, Colorado and Illinois. Arline’s family was very precious to her. She is survived by three sons; Ronald and his wife Beth of Dallas, Texas, Eugene of Portland, Oregon and Robert and his wife Betty of Fond du Lac. Three grandchildren, Cody, Brian and Laura also survive her. She is further survived by two brothers, Reverend Don (Peg) Hasse of Sheboygan Falls and Dr. Allen (Sue) Hasse of Redwood City, California. She is also survived by one sister, Val (Ted) Buckley of Reedsburg, one sister-in-law, Thelma Hasse of Reedsburg, one brother-in-law, Martin Gumz of Cadott, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Steve Huff officiating. Interment next to her beloved husband will be on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in Union Cemetery, Cadott, Wisconsin. The visitation will be on Tuesday at church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.Any memorials can be given in her name to any charity of your choice. Two of her favorites were Bethesda Lutheran Home and Laborers for Christ.
