Raymond L Gulbrand
October 7, 1925 - April 7, 2022
Longtime resident of Fond du Lac, Raymond L. Gulbrand passed to spirit peacefully yesterday, surrounded by his family. He had lived a long and fulfilling life, recently celebrating his 96th birthday. Raymond was born on October 7,1925, and grew up in Denmark, Wisconsin. He was #7 of 10 children of Hans Gulbrand and Emma Behnke Gulbrand. He was the first of their children to go to college and the last remaining child until his death. A WWII Veteran of the US Navy, Mr. Gulbrand had volunteered and served as a radio operator on a transport ship in the Pacific Ocean. Upon returning from his military service, he earned a Teaching Degree from the University of Oshkosh where he met his wife, Barbara. They were married in 1950 and recently celebrated 71st Wedding Anniversary. Raymond was a highly regarded High School Biology Teacher and Boys’ Basketball Coach for 12 years. He left an imprint on the hearts of many students who, to this day, seek him out to express how grateful they were to have him as their Teacher and Coach. In 1963, he opened his own State Farm Insurance Agency and served the Fond du Lac community until he retired in 1995. In addition to being a business professional, Ray was a well-respected and active member of his Church and Community. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed his time on an All-Star Bowling team with an average score of 201 and an impressive 801 Series. Throughout his professional career and in his personal life Mr. Gulbrand exhibited the highest standards of personal character, integrity, devotion to family and community and to the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to be treated fairly and have access to a good education. He never talked about his good deeds but helped many people throughout his life with acts of kindness. His greatest accomplishment was raising his family. Raymond is survived by his devoted wife Barbara, his children Rick (and Sue) Gulbrand, Mark Gulbrand (and Ellen Baldwin), Blake Gulbrand, Jennifer Gulbrand (David Amaral); his grandchildren, Jessica, Jayne, Montana, Rekha, and Nataliya; and great grandchildren Jake, Kyra and Emerson. Raymond lived his life fully and leaves a legacy of service, accomplishment, and love that will leave a lasting imprint on our hearts.
