November 11, 1933 - March 6, 2022
Rosalie “Lee” Murray Zimmerman, age 88, of Ripon, formerly of Oakfield, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Maplecrest Assisted Living in Ripon. Lee was born November 11, 1933, to Orville and Leeila Murray in Kowana, Oklahoma. As a child, she moved from Oklahoma to Texas, Illinois and eventually to Fond du Lac. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1951. She married Clair Zimmerman February 21, 1956, at the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac with lifelong friends, Phyllis and Lyle Collien at their side. She moved to Oakfield in1957 and lived there until August of 2021. She worked at Gilles Frozen Custard during their open season, as an operator at Bell Telephone Company, Valin’s Camera Store, as treasurer of the Village of Oakfield and at Oakfield Oil as the business bookkeeper. She started working part-time at the Oakfield Post Office July 1974 and was honored to serve as the U.S. Post Master in Oakfield from 1978-1995. She was an avid supporter of high school sports with Brad and Kay and loved attending her granddaughter, Alli’s basketball, volleyball and softball games. She enjoyed being an active AFS member at Oakfield High in the 80’s. An annual family trip for a week in Eagle River at The Everett Resort was one of her favorite summer weeks for over a decade. Lake time on Willow Lane, at the cottage, was also filled with lots of laughs, card games, amazing memories and sunsets. Lee enjoyed many years riding as a passenger on Clair’s Harley - beginning when they were young and resuming in retirement and becoming “recycled riders”. She rode over 250,000 miles enjoying the Sturgis Rally, Bike Week in Daytona, rides to Mexico with friends from Texas and all over Wisconsin. She loved exploring Texas and Florida in winters from 1996-2014 and making many new friends. Lee had a huge heart for helping others - she loved to support and help those in need however she could. From friends and family living with them, to the numerous stray cats she rescued over the years, there was always an open door, warm house and open arms with Lee. She saw the good in everyone. Lee is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Clair Zimmerman; her children, Brad (Wendi) Zimmerman of Waupun and Kay (Cris) Bumby of Ripon; a granddaughter, Alli Bumby; her sister, Lynda (Kenneth) Krupp; nieces, Nicki and Deana, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Louise “Gladys” Evans, mother and father-in law and many wonderful friends. VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Burial will follow in Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield.
