August 17, 1932 - March 7, 2021
Shirley M. Bindert, 88, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Maple Meadows Assisted Living. She was born on August 17, 1932, in Fond du Lac. She was a graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School, Class of 1950. On September 2, 1950, she married Clarence “Dutch” H. Bindert, at Church of Our Saviour Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev. B.J. Stecker officiating. Shirley took great interest in her grandchildren, always there to help and spend precious time with them. She had many interests with some of her favorites being gardening, actively learning and practicing healthy living choices, being a meticulous stay at home mom / grandmother, then to be rewarded with an almost daily trip to Schreiner’s for a bite to eat and conversation with family and friends. Shirley enjoyed spending time in Waupaca on the Chain O’ Lakes. From her early childhood days until late in life you most assuredly would know time would be spent in Waupaca enjoying the Chain O’ Lakes and the Cabin that she and Dutch built together. Their favorite things to do, and always together, were daily walks, hiking, cross-country skiing, gardening, spending time on the lakes and taking an afternoon break before dinner to go to the Indian Crossing Casino to meet up with family and friends. Shirley was never seen without a tan as she loved summers on the lakes. Church was a corner stone of Shirley’s life. Rarely would a church service be missed. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Until later in life, Shirley enjoyed being part of women’s groups at the church as well as volunteering at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, especially for the monthly birthdays for the residents. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clarence “Dutch” Bindert of Fond du Lac, her daughters: Karen (Kim) Suhs and Deborah Andrews both of Fond du Lac; her three grandchildren: DeAnne (John) Jones of Fond du Lac, Keegan (Alissa) Murphy of Appleton and Dr. Kaleigh (Dr. Brett Hapeman) Suhs, Chicago, IL; seven great-grandchildren: Rose, Jake, Sam, Kellan, Taytum, Ronan and Rilynn and two great-great grandchildren: Nova and Zari. She is preceded in death by her parents: Elmer and Nelda Peterson, her brother, Loyal (Jeanette) Krueger and her sister Eunice (Dale) Heath.
