October 16, 1979 - August 10, 2021
Torres "Tory" Steven Peterson, 41, of Fond du Lac, passed away at his home on #ToryTuesday, August 10, 2021. Tory was born on October 16, 1979 in Geneva Lake, Ohio. He married his best friend, Erin Elizabeth Kivela, on July 19, 2003. Tory graduated from Goodrich High School in 1997 and attended UW-Stevens Point. He worked as an Account Manager at Vallen USA in Horicon. Tory loved to hunt with his faithful companions, Harper and Drake, and was a proud lifetime member of the NRA, as well as Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid Michigan Wolverines fan, and enjoyed playing cards and games with his family. Tory was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mount Calvary. Tory was most proud of the two children he and Erin raised together, Ethan and Addy. White Knights, Blue Knights, Winnebago Whitecaps, Forest Athletic Club, and Brownsville Little League were among the many baseball and softball programs Tory coached. WLA Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams, and Jr. Viking Football and Basketball teams were also important coaching experiences for Tory. Generously using his time and talents to coach and mentor young athletes, Tory was also involved in many grade school athletics at St. Paul Lutheran School, North Fond du Lac, through the years. One of Tory’s favorite summer activities was playing church softball for St. Paul’s during the past seven years. Tory was an incredibly selfless man who had the biggest heart for all people. The battle with melanoma was fierce, but Tory’s faith never wavered. The sickness took his strength, but Tory fought back with grace. The time was too short, but in our memories, Tory will remain ageless. Those most important in Tory’s life were his wife, Erin; son, Ethan; and daughter, Addysin; parents: Paula Urbanick and her husband, Richard; Steven Peterson and his wife, Lisa; in-laws: James and Catherine Kivela; grandparents: Norman and Barbara Risseeuw; siblings: Chris (Heather) Pearson; Kyle Ramirez; and Keli Ramirez; siblings through marriage: David (Dawn) Kivela; Colleen (James) Rindt; and Eric (Amy) Kivela; nieces and nephews: Joshua, Elizabeth, Peter, Kristin, Brexden, and Zoey; godchildren: Ella Merten and Sawyer Lenz; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tory was a dear friend, coach, and mentor to countless others… too many to list. Tory was preceded in death by his grandparents Jerry and Iris Peterson, Helen Peterson, Phil Heitke, Fran and Donna Torres, and Helen Urbanick. The Peterson family would like to thank the Lombardi Cancer Center in Oshkosh and the Hope Division of the Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center in Milwaukee, as well as Pastor Barenz for the many visits and spiritual comforts over the past months. VISITATION AND FUNERAL: Tory’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Winnebago Lutheran Academy, 475 E. Merrill Ave, Fond du Lac. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, with funeral services beginning at 3pm, with Pastor Mark Barenz officiating. Tory’s body will be laid to rest after the service at Rienzi Cemetery, but his soul’s VicTory is in Jesus, today and forever. “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30,31 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Peterson Family which will be used to set up scholarship funds for Tory's children.
