Donald F. Meyer

Donald F. Meyer, 81, a resident of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, at St. Agnes Hospital.He was born on May 2, 1929, in Milwaukee, a son of Fred and Ethel Corrigan Meyer. He graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School, Class of 1947, and attended Wartburg College, Waverley, Iowa.Donald served with the United States Army, 315th Engineer Battalion, from 1951-1953 and with the Army Reserves until 1957.On September 1, 1956, he married Helen M. Rohlfs at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Town of Forest.He was employed at AT&T/Wisconsin Bell, where he retired after 36 years.Donald was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church.He was an avid outdoorsman, as well as a handyman with a never ending list. Don loved music and for many years sang in his church choir. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage. Don believed a man’s word and could tell a lot about you by your handshake, he trusted you until proven otherwise. He was a loving, caring man of faith and will be missed by many.He is survived by his wife, Helen; three children: Sharon K. Sandmayr of Fond du Lac, Renee L. (David) Anderson of Fond du Lac, and Brian D. (Cindy) Meyer of Oshkosh; grandchildren: Melissa (Chris) Kurtz, Shelley Sandmayr (special friend Jason Romalia), Tara Sandmayr (special friend Chris Spoerl), Zachary, Stephanie, and Jacob Anderson, Kyle and Kaylin Meyer; one great-grandson, Brandon Blackwood; two brothers: Gerald (Elaine) Meyer of Fond du Lac, and Glenn (Linda) Meyer of West Allis; and a sister, Janet (Wayne) Huehns of Sheboygan Falls.He was preceded in death by his parents.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2010, at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, Fond du Lac, with Rev. David Pavesic officiating. Entombment to follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Ledgeview Memorial Park.The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and on Friday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.Memorials may be directed to Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
