Elisabeth "Betty" E. Wegner

Elisabeth “Betty” E. Wegner, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at The Woodlands Senior Park.Betty was the eldest of nine children, born on November 26, 1921, in the Town of Eldorado, a daughter of Harry R. and Frieda M. Abraham Jacobs. Betty was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Class of 1940.On October 4, 1943, she married Norman W. Hackbarth. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1962. She then married Carl F. Wegner, Sr., on April 18, 1968. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2003.Betty and Norman farmed together near Ladoga for seven years and then moved to Van Dyne in 1959. She was employed at Wells Manufacturing Company and Tolibia Cheese Company, retiring in 1978.Betty was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Eldorado, and a former member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed attending services and Bible class at her church. She also enjoyed her home and garden in Van Dyne, potato pancakes at Schreiner’s and trips up north.She is survived by three brothers: Harry A. (Lucille) Jacobs, Town of Friendship, Edward H. Jacobs, Fond du Lac, and David (Irene) Jacobs, St. Peter; three sisters-in-law: Gloria Jacobs and Jean Jacobs, both of Fond du Lac, and Donna Jacobs, Chino Valley, Arizona. She is also survived by Carl’s children: Carl (Marlene) Wegner, West Bend, Donna Jungwirth, Oshkosh, and John (Susie) Wegner, Rhinelander; their children and grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; four brothers: Carlton H. Jacobs, Richard T. Jacobs, Elton K. Jacobs, and Ronald H. Jacobs; a sister, Marilyn Fenske; a brother-in-law, Hubert Fenske; and two sisters-in-law: Iris Jacobs and Bertie Jacobs.The funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, July 2, 2012, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, N7987 Town Hall Road, Eldorado, with Rev. Thomas H. Behnke officiating. Burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.The visitation will be on Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, or Agnesian Hospice Hope, in memory of Betty.The family would like to thank Mary Jo, Nancy, and the staff at Touchstone Living Center; Judy, Valerie, and the staff at The Woodlands Senior Park; and Agnesian Hospice Hope for the wonderful care and compassion given to Betty during the past three years.
