Gale E. Degner

Gale E. Degner, 82, of Van Dyne, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born on January 3, 1942, in Berlin, the daughter of Arnold and Myrtle Marvin. She was a graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School. She attended Marian University and received a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She was married to Earl Degner for 61 years, who preceded her in death on June 11, 2020. She garnered respect by the business community because of her work at the Association of Commerce in Fond du Lac. She began her career with the State of Wisconsin at Job Service. She completed her career with the State of Wisconsin at the Department of Corrections as a probation and parole supervisor, where she received a certificate of commendation from Governor Tommy Thompson. She served in numerous civic organizations. She was a Past Worthy High Priestess with the Masonic Lodge. Past President of National Management Organization-FDL Chapter. A member of Altrusa International, The Red Hat Society, Bulldog Club of Milwaukee, and a charter member for Shar-Pei Club of America. Everyone who interacted with Gale knew her for her love of animals, especially dogs. Gale took pride in breeding Shar-Pei and English Bulldogs. Gale found joy in placing dogs in the homes of loving families. Gale was also a woman who stirred others into excellence. Over the years, she and her husband took in a handful of young people who now call her mom. Her coaching, training, and teaching transformed their lives into productive citizenship. She is survived by her son, Scott (Debra Stacey) Degner, three grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Gierach, David (Michelle) Degner, and Daniel (Victoria) Degner; two step-great-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Helen Degner; and her dog Maxine. She is preceded in death by her parents. VISITATION: The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, with Rev. Mary Council-Austin officiating. A luncheon will follow at Edgewood Community Church- Fond du Lac. Entombment to follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Ledgeview Memorial Park on Monday, March 18, 2024.
