Georgianna "Georgie" C. Meyer

Georgianna “Georgie” C. Penning Meyer, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the age of 91. She had been residing at Tarfa Terrace at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for the past 4 ½ years, skilled nursing side 1 ½ months, and Hospice Care for the past 3 weeks.She was born on February 22, 1920, the third of five children to Alfred and Mary Ludwig Penning in Stockbridge. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Grade School in Kloten. On August 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orville “Curley” Meyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chilton. Georgie and Curley farmed in the Town of Forest/Dotyville area for 24 years before moving to Fond du Lac. Curley died on December 11, 1978, at the age of 61. Before retirement, Georgie cleaned homes, and worked at Howard Johnson’s and the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, sewing, playing cards and bingo, and watching baseball games on television.Georgianna was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community and a member of the Holy Family Christian Women of St. Joseph’s.She is survived by seven children: Judy (Harvey) Franzen of Oshkosh, Jim (Arlene) Meyer of The Villages, Florida, Dick (Dorothy) Meyer of North Fond du Lac, Linda Meyer (Gina Beougher) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Patsy Meyer of Thornton, Colorado, Paul Meyer (Tom Nolan) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mike Meyer of Wauwatosa; eight grandchildren: Sheryl (Kurt) Cowling of Wauwatosa, Steve (Cathy) Franzen of Oshkosh, Kellie Ann (Spencer) Mitchell of Oviedo, Florida, Matt (Kirstie) Meyer of Tampa, Florida, Jeff (girlfriend Sherry Rogers) Meyer of Appleton, Jesse (Traci) Meyer of Oshkosh, Mikey Meyer, Jr. of Buford, Georgia, and Chad (Mandy) Meyer of Spring Valley, California; nine great-grandchildren: Douglas and Zachery Mitchell, Tommy and Lauren Meyer, Ellie, Brady, and Hank Meyer, Mykella Meyer, and Jackson Meyer. She is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Franzen, and a sister-in-law, Madeline Penning, both of Stockbridge; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Mathilda Merten Meyer, three brothers: Sylvester “Sam” Penning of Stockbridge, Harold “Mike” Penning of Fond du Lac, and Roman Penning of New London; a brother-in-law, Ernest Franzen of Stockbridge; and two sisters-in-law: Pat Penning of New London, and Jean Penning of Fond du Lac. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Community, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac. Inurnment will follow in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park.The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.The family would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to all the personnel at Tarfa Terrace, especially Mary Breister and her staff, for their loving care to our mother.
