James J. Schwartz

James J. Schwartz, of Fond du Lac, Wis passed away on August 2, 2026, at the age of 94. Jim was born on Sept. 22, 1931, to John George Schwartz and Stella Marie (Barr) Schwartz in Milwaukee, Wis. After graduating from Washington High school in 1949, he went onto study Speech and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marquette University. Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served from Jan.13, 1954 - Dec. 21, 1955. After completing his service, he worked as an announcer for several radio stations in the Milwaukee, and Beaver Dam area landing at KFIZ in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1956 he married Lois Shirley Behnke also of Milwaukee and in 1958 they built a home in Fond du Lac, Wis. They owned the Hobby Hut business at 47 N. Main Street in Fond du Lac, which sold hobby items and later solely provided custom picture framing. James was predeceased by his parents, John and Stella (Barr) Schwartz and his wife Lois Shirley (Behnke) Schwartz. Jim and Lois were married for 66 years. He is survived by his four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as follows: His daughter Debbie L. (Schwartz) Furman and son-in-law Lt. Col. John S. Furman, USA (Ret.), and their children Col. Michael S. Furman, USSF (Ret.), and his wife Jenney (Sells) Furman and their children Paige, Catherine, and Samuel; and Lindsey (Furman) Schenck and her husband Timothy Schenck and their children Cole, Evelyn, Samantha, and Hailey; and Lt. Col. Thomas S. Furman, USA (Ret.), and his wife Melissa (Gaunt) Furman and their sons Steven and Christopher. His son Mark R. Schwartz and his wife Julie (Haensgen) Schwartz and their children Jacquelyn (Schwartz) Bump and her husband Michael Bump and their children Elizabeth, Wyatt and Jacob; Ann Schwartz and her children Ethan and Rachel; and Adam Schwartz. His daughter, Gay L. (Schwartz) Wilson and her husband Lt. Col. Paul M. Wilson, USA (Ret.), and their children Maj. Kyle Wilson, ANG, and his wife Christine (Graham) Wilson and Kelly (Wilson) Kennedy, and her husband Daniel Kennedy and their children Connor and Daniel. His son Lt. Col. Craig R. Schwartz, USA (Ret.), and his wife Amber (Hughes) Schwartz and their children SPC Alexander Schwartz, USNG, Sarah Schwartz and Eric Schwartz. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Bonnie L. (Behnke) Wojcik and her children Amy (Wojcik) Greuel and her husband Jason and their children Connor and Carson and their son Matthew and his children Josephine and Adeline. A private celebration of his life will be held in Fond du Lac by the family.
