Mike Nitz

Mike Nitz, of Van Dyne, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, after a gallant fight of cancer and other health issues. Mike was born on March 29, 1955, the son of John and Germaine Nitz, who preceded him in death along with his sister Amy and his brother Steve. The family grew up on a farm outside of Oshkosh and had many memorable moments throughout the years. Mike enjoyed reminiscing about good times with his siblings, sisters: Cyndi, Donna, Ann, and brothers: Steve and Tom, laughing and sharing stories and pictures together. Listening to them, showed there was a lot of fun and love among them all. Mike united in marriage to Colleen (Wendt) spending 49 years of marriage together and having two children Jennifer (Randy) Schoonover, Joseph (Angie) Nitz and three wonderful granddaughters Aubrey, Ella, and Emelia. Family meant the world to Mike. He enjoyed spending time playing cribbage or checkers with his granddaughters along with family members; whoever wanted to play he was always there but he was hard to beat. Mike never missed an opportunity to teach his granddaughters new things or to spend time with them. Family meant a lot to Mike. When they were in a room together you could hear the laughter of everyone just having fun enjoying each other's company. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, Mike loved the outdoors that was his serenity. After the big day whether it was fishing or hunting, he couldn't wait to sit with a brandy old fashioned around the campfire and talk about the day with family or friends. Everyone around the campfire would exchange stories with laughter, putting more memories in their memory banks. He will be missed by all of us but he wanted everyone to know that he loved everyone. Spending time with you was a special part of his life. As it got closer to the end of his life, he was very thankful to have his family and friends there to help support him through the difficult times. Mike's wishes were to treasure each day and don't cry. I am not suffering; I am at peace. We will be together soon! A special thanks goes out to the SSM Cancer clinic, Dr. Jones and his staff, Dr. Frederickson, Dr. Johnson, and the special staff and volunteers at the SSM Hospice Home of Hope. Thank you for helping Mike and our family during his days at the home bringing him smiles everyday from each and everyone of you. Also not to be forgotten were the cookies and desserts that he looked forward to each day.😊 Finally, a very sincere thank you goes to Pastor Kampman and Pastor Ehlert for the meaningful words and reminders of God's plan, how great it is! Both of you gave comfort to our family and Mike during his time of need and preparation for his eternal home. Memorials can be sent to St Paul's Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac Wisconsin in memory of Mike. Cremation along with a private service has taken place.
