Richard L. Blamey

Richard Lyle "Dick" Blamey, 84, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at The Manor at the Meadows in Fond du Lac. Dick was born on December 13, 1941, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Lyle and Lucille (Immel) Blamey. Raised in the community he would proudly call home for much of his life, Dick learned the value of hard work at an early age. His parents owned Blamey's Meat Market and Grocery, where he helped by delivering groceries throughout Fond du Lac on his bicycle. His academic ability and strong work ethic earned him a scholarship through Giddings & Lewis to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. Dick began his career with Grant Thornton in Madison before being asked to open an office in Fond du Lac. After several years in public accounting Dick joined the private sector with K.W. Muth in Sheboygan. He later became Chief Financial Officer at Vinyl Plastics, Inc. (VPI), where he remained until his retirement. This year, Dick and his beloved wife, Ann Elizabeth (McCallum) Blamey, celebrated 50 years of marriage—a partnership built on faith, love, adventure, and unwavering devotion to their family. Dick is survived by his wife, Ann; his three children, Richard “Scott” Blamey, Heather (Marcel) Biró, and Jennifer (James) Odegaard; his six grandchildren, Harlow and Scotlyn Biró, Faith and Beau Blamey, and Hugo and Finnli Odegaard. He also is survived by his sisters, Ann Lindberg and Joan (Tim) Deer as well as his brothers-in-law Governor Scott McCallum (Laurie), and John McCallum (Sara). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lucille Blamey, and his grandson, Eastwood Biró as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Marilyn McCallum, and his brothers-in-law, Gary Lindberg and Charles McCallum. While Dick enjoyed a successful professional career, it was his passions outside the office that truly reflected his adventurous spirit. A gifted downhill and water skier, he embraced every season, even sailing across the frozen Lake Winnebago in his ice boat during Wisconsin winters. He loved aviation and earned his recreational pilot's license, sharing that passion with countless others through the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Dick founded an EAA chapter in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, and enthusiastically promoted the Young Eagles program, introducing young people to the joy and wonder of flight. He also found excitement behind the wheel, racing his Porsche 944 at Road America in Elkhart Lake. Whether cycling scenic backroads with his family, sailing, skiing, or exploring the newest technology, Dick approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was always eager to learn, often becoming the first in the family to own the latest computer, camera, or gadget. Travel brought Dick joy. Together with Ann and their family, he explored Europe, Asia, and destinations throughout the United States, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Although Fond du Lac was always home, Dick and Ann later built a lake home in Three Lakes, where he embraced the community and formed many lasting friendships. Dick's faith was the foundation of his life. A devoted Christian Scientist, he faithfully served the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Fond du Lac for many years as First Reader, treasurer, and board member. His commitment to serving others extended throughout the community. He served on the boards of UW–Fond du Lac, Schreier Malting Company, Cedar Ridge, and was an active member of the Fond du Lac Noon Rotary and Financial Executives International (FEI). In recognition of their generosity and enduring commitment to the community, Dick and Ann were honored with the Legacy Award for Outstanding Philanthropy from the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. Dick was immensely proud to be a Wisconsin Badger. He loved returning to the UW–Madison campus, happily giving tours to his children and sharing stories of the place that helped shape his future. Above all else, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family lovingly joked that he was a workaholic, but they also knew that no matter what he was doing, he would immediately set everything aside if one of his children needed him. He patiently taught them how to ride a bicycle, dive into the water with confidence, and yes—even how to file a tax return. He led not through grand speeches but through quiet consistency. His integrity was unquestionable. He was loyal, patient, kind, humble, and deeply ethical. He listened without judgment, rarely took offense, and treated others with respect and grace. His legacy lives on not only through the family he loved so dearly but also through the countless lives he touched—with his generosity, his service, his faith, and his example. He showed those around him that success is measured not by accomplishments alone but by character, compassion, and the willingness to help others. Dick's family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff of The Manor Memory Care and the team at Moments Hospice. Their extraordinary kindness, dignity, and loving care wrapped Dick and his family in comfort during his final days and will never be forgotten.
