Ruth M. Smith

Ruth M. Smith, 94, of Fond du Lac, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Hospice Home of Hope. The former Ruth Stanchfield was born November 14, 1927, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to the late Samuel and Bertha Stanchfield. She was united in marriage with Franklin Olson, on June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death June 4, 1970. She was then united in marriage with Robert Smith, June 4, 1987, in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2001. Ruth lived in Fond du Lac most of her life. She was a 1945 graduate of Fond du Lac High School. She graduated from MPTC in Fond du Lac, September 1964 as an LPN. She also graduated from Ferris State College, Big Rapids, Michigan February 1974 as a RN. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fond du Lac. She enjoyed being with and helping family and friends. She loved to sew, knit and do crafts right up to her final days. She was active as a volunteer at the Galloway House, Salvation Army, First Presbyterian Church, Fond du Lac Senior Center, Hospice Home of Hope, and American Legion Axillary. She is survived by her son James F. Olson of Fond du Lac, her stepchildren: Jeanne (John) McDowell of Fond du Lac, Margret (Jim) Behrens of Mequon, Michael Smith of Fond du Lac, Charles (Mary) Smith of Menomonie, WI and Peter Smith of Fond du Lac; her step grandchildren: Morgan Smith, Dylan Smith and Cholena Zielicke; her step-great grandchildren: Caliann Smith, Lucas Kattestad and Liam Connor; her step daughter-in-law Janelle Anderson, her sisters-in-law: Ann Stanchfield and Carol Stanchfield: and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Frank Olson and Robert Smith; her son Robert G. Olson, her stepchildren, John Smith and William Smith, her siblings: Eugene Stanchfield, John Stanchfield, George Stanchfield, Virginia Willis and Harriet Murphy. VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 11:00 – 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 1225 Fourth Street, Fond du Lac. SERVICE: Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment to follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Ledgeview Memorial Park. Cremation has taken place. Memorials suggested to Hospice Home of Hope, Galloway House or Salvation Army. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice Home of Hope, which made her final days comfortable and joyous.
