Sandra L. Smith

Sandra L. (nee State) Smith, 82, of Campbellsport and Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Sandra was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 21, 1943, the daughter of Carl and Francis (nee Peterson) State. On November 26, 1960, she married the love of her life, Darel A. Smith in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sandy wore many hats in her lifetime. She was a seamstress and did alterations, worked retail at the Ben Franklin Store in Campbellsport, was a personal property/rental manager/owner and office staff at Weasler Engineering, UBC Lumber in Jackson, Wisconsin and several other companies. Sandy will be remembered for so many things. When her children were little, she would stay up late into the night to sew new dresses for her girls. She had flower and vegetable gardens and will be remembered for her hours of canning and freezing, strawberries and raspberries (with ice cream), zucchini everything and the best sweet corn enjoyed all year round. Camping was a family thing including a trip to Wyoming Yellowstone Park, Montana and Canada. She later traveled extensively and wintered in Mission, Texas with Darel. Her children, too, will never forget her signature “whistle” as she called them home for dinner. Sandy also made a legendary chili that will be passed on for generations. Sandy raised four children and sang her own songs as she worked. Those left behind to cherish Sandy’s memory include her daughters, Meridee Smith and Carmen (Jeff) Wick; her sons, Mitch (Beatrice) Smith and Corey (Tara) Smith; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Darel, Nicole, Carlena, Jacob, Jordan, Bryce, Tony and Griffin; three great-grandchildren, Lydia, Johnathan and Warren; her brothers, Cal (Pam) and Jack State, other relatives and friends. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Doug, Joan, Beverly and Jean. A private memorial meal will take place in the near future. Graveside inurnment will take place at Mound Cemetery in Downing, Wisconsin at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Darel A. Smith.
